Tesla was fined over PS20,000 for failing to work with UK Police to identify drivers involved in speeding offenses. In the last two years the British arm of Elon Musk’s electric car firm has been convicted by criminal courts for failing to respond to police requests.
Tesla’s system of long-term leases is the cause. Before legal action can take place, the police need to receive the details of the driver from the leasing company.
Nearly 4,000 defendants have received fines between PS1 and PS1,000 for failing to identify drivers who were under investigation. South Wales Police asked Tesla Financial Services for the details of the driver.
The Merthyr-Tydfil court fined Tesla PS1,000. This included PS120 for costs, and PS400 as a victim surcharge.
