Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared, are purchasing the majority stake in one of the most recognizable sports clubs in the world. LA Lakers Set for Record $12.5bn Sale to Kushner and Iger In a deal that was unanimously authorized by the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025. Walter purchased his stake from the Buss family for an estimated $10 billion (£7.45 billion), setting a previous record. Kushner and Iger said: “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world. “We greatly admire the vision and leadership of Jerry and Jeanie Buss. How Mark Walter Became Lakers Owner “Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles.” In 1979, Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers for $67.5 million (£50 million), which also included the Los Angeles Kings hockey franchise and the Kia Forum, a Los Angeles arena. Before a contract was finalized with Walter, who also holds a part in the LA Dodgers alongside Todd Boehly, ownership was transferred to his six children in a trust upon his death in 2013. Lakers Have 17 NBA Championships “One of the greatest honors of my life has been owning the Los Angeles Lakers,” Walter remarked. The community, the supporters, and a city that views this team as family are what I will take with me, even if it has been an incredible investment. I appreciate being welcomed into this chapter by Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff. Los Angeles owns the Lakers, and I’m confident that the greatest is still to come.” The LA Lakers have won 17 NBA titles, one fewer than the Boston Celtics’ record of 18. Kushner’s involvement in the recent scandal regarding Fifa head Gianni Infantino and an abandoned plan before the sale. How the Buss Family Owned the Lakers I am appreciative to Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff for allowing me to be a part of this chapter. US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

Hayden Panettiere's death at 36 has prompted an emotional tribute from Wladimir Klitschko as officials continue to investigate the cause of her death.
Wladimir Klitschko, the former partner of Hayden Panettiere, claims that his family is in “profound shock and grief.”

She met Brian Hickerson, her new lover, just before Nashville's production concluded. Later on, he became aggressive; according to Panettiere, he would smack her head against the wall and once battered her face so severely that she was unable to leave her home for weeks. In her 36 years, she faced more challenges than most, and she tried to deal with them by writing her book, which was released in May. She concluded by assuring readers that she had learned to "walk hand in hand with my triumphs and my tragedies, because they have made me who I am" and that she had come to terms with her past while maintaining optimism for the future.

Advocating Peaceful Protests

Mrs. Trump stressed the importance of peaceful demonstrations.

“We need to unify. My husband, the president, had a productive call yesterday with Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey. They are working together to keep things peaceful and prevent riots,” she said.

She added, “I’m against violence. If you protest, do so peacefully.”

Offering Support During Winter Storms

Mrs. Trump also spoke about the massive winter storm hitting several states. Heavy snow, ice, and power outages affected many Americans.

“I feel deep compassion for those impacted by this storm. The federal government is working to provide assistance. As Americans, we need to help each other during these difficult times,” she said.

She added, “I send them my strength and love and I am thinking of them.”

Promoting Her Upcoming Film, MELANIA

The First Lady also shared details about her upcoming movie, MELANIA. The 104-minute film covers her life before President Trump’s inauguration. It includes her time in Trump Tower, Mar-a-Lago, and behind-the-scenes access inside the White House.

“This story has never been told before. Audiences will see me manage my business, philanthropy, family preparations for the inauguration, and set up the East Wing — all in 20 days,” she said.

Over the weekend, Mrs. Trump hosted a star-studded White House screening ahead of the film’s global release on Friday.

Previous Article The winners of the Travel Photographer of the Year 2025 have been revealed, showcasing breathtaking moments from across the globe. From sacred rituals to fleeting acts of survival, these images highlight the power and beauty of travel photography. Overall Winner: Athanasios Maloukos, Greece Athanasios Maloukos took the top prize for two series exploring ritual, belief, and movement. One captures the solemn Holy Week processions in Zamora, Spain, while the other follows the hypnotic Sema ceremony of whirling dervishes in Konya, Turkey. Both series were shot in low light, using precise shutter speeds to balance blur and stillness. Chris Coe, TPOTY founder, praised Maloukos’s skill. He said, “Capturing movement like this requires extreme precision. These images convey rhythm, reverence, and emotion entirely in camera, without over-processing.” Judge Jeremy Hoare called this work “one of the best over the 23 years of these awards.” Travel Image of the Year: Dana Allen, US Dana Allen won Travel Image of the Year for his striking photo of a bull elephant in Tanzania's Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The elephant, covered in dust, peers through a single visible eye. Although elephants often take dust baths, Allen’s shot transforms a familiar behavior into an abstract study of texture and gesture. This image also earned him the One Shot: Travel in Monochrome award. Young Travel Photographer of the Year 2025: Jamie Smart, UK At just 10 years old, Jamie Smart impressed the judges with her portfolio of flying foxes, photographed both at a zoo hospital in Queensland and in the wild. Judge Krystal Chryssomallis highlighted her sensitivity and awareness in storytelling. “Jamie understands light, timing, and framing. Her images communicate meaning and tell a compelling story.” Global Competition Highlights The competition received over 20,000 submissions from 160 countries. Entries were judged anonymously by a 16-member international panel. Finalists were required to submit original raw files, ensuring authenticity and confirming no AI involvement. The judges noted that the standard this year was exceptionally high. “The strongest photographs carried depth, intention, and emotion,” said Chryssomallis. “They show that when we truly see the world, it is powerful and beautiful.” These award-winning images capture moments of ritual, nature, and human resilience, reminding us of the extraordinary stories waiting to be discovered through travel photography.
