Conflict between the governments of Sindh and Punjab has been sparked by the Cholistan Canal project. While the Sindh government has voiced reservations about its implementation, the Punjab government has defended the project, claiming that water management is its responsibility.
Over 7.2 lakh acres of land were to be irrigated by the Rs2.187 trillion project, which also included plans to build a 185-kilometer canal in its second phase.
According to the Punjab government, the project is essential to enhancing water management and raising regional agricultural output.
“Water management is our right, and no one can stop it,” stressed Punjab government spokesperson Azma Bokhari. There shouldn’t be any issues if Punjab controls water within its borders.
