Savannah Guthrie and Family Make Emotional Appeal
News anchor Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released a video pleading for the safe return of their mother, Nancy Guthrie. In the video posted Saturday evening on Instagram, Savannah said, “We received your message, and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother so we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.” The family did not provide details of the message they had received.
Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona home last weekend. Authorities believe she may have been taken against her will.
FBI Offers Reward as Investigation Continues
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that no suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles have been identified. Officers are maintaining a security presence at her home at the family’s request.
The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s safe return. She was reported missing after failing to attend Sunday church services on February 1, prompting concern from family and community members. Early Sunday, a doorbell camera at her home was removed, and her pacemaker app was disconnected from her phone at around 2:28 a.m. local time.
Potential Ransom Note Demands Millions in Cryptocurrency
FBI Special Agent Heith Janke said investigators are reviewing a potential ransom note sent to multiple media outlets. The note reportedly contained facts and a deadline, with a monetary demand attached. Reports indicate the kidnappers asked for millions of dollars in cryptocurrency, which is often harder to trace.
The family previously released two videos asking the kidnappers to provide proof that Nancy is alive and expressed their willingness to communicate. In one video on Thursday, her son Camron Guthrie said, “We have to know that you have our mum. We want to talk to you.”
Authorities arrested one individual connected to a fake ransom note on Thursday. Savannah Guthrie warned that her mother is at risk without her medication, saying, “She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer.”
Authorities Maintain Home Security and Follow-Up
Investigators returned to Nancy Guthrie’s home for follow-ups on Friday and also visited the home of Savannah’s sister, Annie Guthrie, on Saturday. US President Donald Trump confirmed he spoke with Savannah and offered federal assistance, noting there are strong clues in the investigation.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, “Right now, we believe Nancy is still out there. We want her home. Everybody’s still a suspect in our eyes.”
Savannah Guthrie, 54, has co-anchored news’ Today since 2012 and continues to appeal for her mother’s safe return.
