How Can Football Lawmakers Fix Corner Kick Chaos in the Premier League? Corner kicks in the Premier League have turned into wrestling matches. Players push, grab, and block each other before the ball even drops. Goals from set pieces are rising, but so is frustration. Managers, referees, and fans now question whether football’s lawmakers need to step in. Growing Frustration Over Grappling at Corners Recent matches have highlighted the issue. During a clash between Everton and Manchester United, several Everton players crowded goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Leny Yoro ended up inside the net after being pushed, while Harry Maguire also became involved in the chaos. Everton manager David Moyes criticized referees for failing to act. He argued officials avoid making tough calls in crowded penalty areas. Other coaches share similar concerns. Arsenal have earned a reputation for mastering blocking tactics at corners. Moyes even described them as the best at using these so called dark arts, though he admitted they do it effectively. In Arsenal’s recent game against Chelsea, players visibly held opponents during set pieces. Chelsea conceded twice from corners in that 2 to 1 defeat. Is the Premier League Threshold Too High? Statistics show the trend clearly. Around 27 percent of goals in the Premier League this season have come from set pieces. That is higher than Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Ligue 1. The league believes its foul threshold sits at the right level. Before the season began, coaches, captains, referees, and pundits supported the current approach. Officials only punish clear and obvious holding, sometimes with VAR support. Still, many fans see players grabbing shirts while VAR checks tight offsides. That contrast fuels anger online. Possible Law Changes on the Table Some former officials suggest rule adjustments. One idea would allow referees to award penalties once they blow the whistle for a corner, even if the ball has not yet entered play. This change could stop early grappling. Another proposal requires attackers to start outside the six yard box before the kick. That would reduce crowding around the goalkeeper and create more space. So far, International Football Association Board has not prioritized this issue in its recent meetings. Lawmakers may view the problem as part of the natural evolution of tactics rather than a crisis. Who Should Take Responsibility? Coaches design these routines. Players execute them. Referees enforce the rules. Each group plays a role. However, as tactics grow more aggressive, enforcement becomes harder. Sixteen players can squeeze into a small area during a single corner. Referees must track multiple holds at once. That task tests even experienced officials. If the game’s image continues to suffer, lawmakers may have little choice but to act. Until then, corner kick chaos looks set to remain part of the Premier League story.

Audi and Cadillac Enter F1: Same Goal, Different Paths Two major car brands are entering Formula 1 in 2026, each with the same ambition but very different approaches. Audi has taken over the Sauber team, while Cadillac, under General Motors, is building a team from scratch. Both see F1’s new hybrid engine rules as a perfect marketing platform for their road-car technologies. Audi: Transforming an Existing Team Audi’s strategy focuses on transforming Sauber into a competitive F1 team. The team has a mix of trackside and factory leadership. Jonathan Wheatley, formerly of Red Bull, manages operations at the track, while Mattia Binotto, ex-Ferrari, runs the technical and factory side. Audi also builds its own engine at Neuburg while improving Sauber’s Hinwil base in Switzerland. Despite early struggles from underinvestment, the team showed progress in 2025, with veteran driver Nico Hulkenberg achieving a podium at the British Grand Prix. Early tests suggest Audi sits in the midfield, competing with Haas, Alpine, and Racing Bulls, while slightly ahead of Williams. The team aims to compete for championships within five years. Cadillac: Building From Scratch Cadillac faced a different challenge. Starting fresh, they had to create an entire team while dealing with F1 politics and delays. Initially, Andretti Global tried to enter the sport, but the bid was rejected. After restructuring and strengthening GM’s role, the entry was approved. Team principal Graeme Lowdon leads the project, supported by technical director Nick Chester. The team operates across multiple locations: Silverstone in the UK, Warren, Michigan, and Charlotte, North Carolina. A new facility in Indiana will serve as the main manufacturing center. Unlike Audi, Cadillac relies on Ferrari customer engines until their own power unit arrives in 2029. The flat management structure and peer-to-peer communication model aim to handle the geographical challenges. Different Challenges, Same Ambition Audi focuses on transforming an existing team and integrating a new engine. Cadillac builds a team and culture from scratch, planning for the long-term with its own power unit. Audi is ready to compete in the midfield immediately, while Cadillac’s real performance will likely start once their engine program is complete. Both have ambitious goals, but they approach F1 from different angles. Key Takeaways Audi transforms Sauber with a strong technical and leadership team. Cadillac builds from zero with a flat, NASA-style management system. Both see F1’s hybrid rules as marketing for their road cars. Audi targets titles within five years; Cadillac has limitless ambitions.

Australian police say they have identified a suspect in the disappearance of four year old Gus Lamont, who went missing from a remote sheep station in South Australia. Gus was last seen on 27 September playing outside his family home at Oak Park station, near the small town of Yunta. The property sits around 300 kilometres from Adelaide and is surrounded by harsh outback terrain. Child Vanishes From Remote Property According to police, Gus was under the care of his grandmother at the time. She left him alone for about thirty minutes before checking on him again. When she returned, the boy was gone. The family reported him missing soon after. Police launched one of the largest land and air searches ever carried out in the state. Search teams covered nearly 470 square kilometres around the station. That area is about twice the size of Edinburgh. Despite weeks of effort, officers found no trace of the child. Search Scaled Back as Investigation Shifted By late October, police reduced the active search. They then formed a twelve member taskforce to focus on the investigation. The team reviewed earlier statements from family members and others linked to the property. During this process, investigators noticed several gaps and conflicts in the timeline of Gus’s disappearance. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said these issues led police to focus on a person who lives at Oak Park station. That individual has now stopped cooperating with investigators. Parents Not Considered Suspects Police stressed that Gus’s parents are not suspects. Fielke said officers want to be clear on this point, as public attention around the case continues to grow. He added that the focus remains on finding out what happened to the child. In January, police searched the property again. They seized several items, including a vehicle, a motorcycle, and electronic devices. Investigators continue to examine these materials. Theories Narrowed by Police At the start of the case, police explored three main possibilities. They considered whether Gus walked away, was abducted, or was harmed by someone he knew. Given the isolation of the area, officers ruled out abduction. They also found no evidence to support the idea that the boy simply wandered off. This led police to believe that someone familiar with Gus may be involved in his disappearance and possible death. Police Vow to Continue Investigation Fielke said the investigation remains active and thorough. He added that nothing has been ruled out. Police say their goal is to find Gus and give his family answers. Officers remain determined to reach a conclusion, no matter how long it takes.

Previous Article Videos shared on social media over the past week show long queues at passport control at Geneva Airport. Some travelers say they waited up to three hours to clear border checks. Geneva Airport often gets crowded during winter. Ski season brings thousands of visitors, including many from the UK. This year, however, delays have grown worse. Airport officials say a new EU border system has increased congestion at passport control. New EU Entry Exit System Causes Delays Geneva Airport has blamed the EU Entry Exit System, known as EES, for the slow movement of passengers. Officials say congestion is most common on Saturdays, which are the busiest travel days during ski season. A spokesperson said the rollout of EES has created serious challenges for Swiss customs and airport staff. The new system requires biometric checks, which take more time per passenger. To ease pressure, the airport has increased staff numbers. Even so, long queues continue during peak hours. Tenerife Also Sees Long Waiting Times Similar delays have appeared at Tenerife Airport in the Canary Islands. The island remains a top winter sun destination for British travelers. Andrew Knight, who runs Sanasty Car Hire at Tenerife Airport, says many arriving passengers struggle with long waits at border kiosks. Most of his customers come from the UK and arrive during busy flight schedules. Delays Depend on Arrival Times Passengers who land during quieter hours often pass through passport control quickly. Some clear checks in about 20 minutes. Problems start when several flights arrive close together. During these periods, queues grow fast. Some travelers wait up to two hours before reaching the kiosks. Knight says the system works unevenly. At times, technical issues shut it down completely. When that happens, delays increase and frustration grows. Peak Travel Still a Concern Airport operators warn that long queues could continue during busy travel seasons. Until systems improve, passengers may face delays at major European airports. Authorities say flexibility remains an option. Border staff can pause the new system during peak times if queues become unmanageable. Long Passport Queues Reported at European Airports
Next Article Leicester City Docked Six Points Over Financial Rule Breach Leicester City have lost six points after the English Football League ruled that the club broke financial regulations. The punishment takes effect immediately and pushes Leicester down the Championship table. The Foxes drop from 17th to 20th place and now sit just outside the relegation zone on goal difference. The decision comes at a difficult time for the club, both on and off the pitch. Why Leicester Were Penalised The Premier League charged Leicester in May for breaching profit and sustainability rules. The case covered the three year period ending in the 2023 to 2024 season. Under PSR rules, Premier League clubs cannot lose more than one hundred and five million pounds across three seasons. However, the allowed loss decreases by twenty two million pounds for every season spent outside the top division. Leicester spent part of that period in the Championship, which lowered their permitted spending limit. Club Losses Explained Leicester’s financial records show heavy losses over recent years. For the year ending June 30, 2024, the club reported a loss of nineteen point four million pounds. In the 2022 to 2023 season, Leicester confirmed losses of eighty nine point seven million pounds. The year before that, up to May 2022, the club recorded a record loss of ninety two point five million pounds. These figures do not include allowed adjustments. Clubs can exclude certain costs, such as stadium development and investment in women’s football, which both leagues consider beneficial to the sport. Leicester Responds to the Decision Leicester City strongly criticised the ruling. The club described the six point deduction as unfair and excessive. In an official statement, Leicester said the commission reduced the original punishment requested by the Premier League. However, the club believes the final decision still ignores key mitigating factors. Leicester confirmed they are reviewing the ruling carefully and weighing their next steps. The club also stressed its commitment to fair and transparent processes. On Field Struggles Continue The points deduction adds pressure to an already tough season. Leicester have failed to win their last four Championship matches and lost three of them. The club also remain without a permanent manager. Leicester dismissed Marti Cifuentes in January, leaving Andy King in charge as interim head coach. King will lead the team against Birmingham City on Saturday as Leicester fight to move clear of the relegation battle. Leicester City Docked Six Points Over Financial Rule Breach
