A serious Tesla crash in Texas is now under investigation by US safety officials after a car went off the road and hit a house, leading to a woman’s death.
What Happened in the Crash
On 19 June, a Tesla Model 3 was being driven in Texas when it suddenly left its lane. The vehicle went off the road and crashed into a home at high speed. Inside the house, a woman was badly injured and later died.
Police confirmed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He told investigators that the car may have been using an automated driving feature at the time.
Federal Safety Investigation Begins
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a special crash investigation. This type of probe is used when advanced vehicle technology may be involved. It helps regulators understand how systems behave in real crash situations and whether safety rules need updates.
Tesla’s Driving System Under Review
Tesla calls its driver assistance system “Full Self Driving (Supervised)”. The company says drivers must stay alert and ready to take control at all times.
However, safety concerns have grown in recent years. Critics say the system may not perform reliably in all road conditions. The system is now part of several ongoing reviews by US regulators.
Tesla has not issued a public comment about this crash or the investigation.
Wider Concerns About Self Driving Technology
Other companies are also developing self driving systems. Waymo and Uber are testing similar technology in different regions.
Some lawmakers in the US have also asked regulators to tighten safety checks. They want clearer reporting on how these systems perform in real world driving.
