Deadly Blast Rocks Major Fireworks Hub
A powerful explosion at a fireworks factory in Liuyang has killed 26 people and injured 61 others. The incident took place on Monday afternoon at the Huasheng Fireworks plant, located in one of the world’s largest fireworks production centers.
Emergency teams rushed to the site and launched a large-scale rescue operation. Authorities deployed more than 1,500 responders, along with trained dogs, drones, and robotic equipment. Rescue workers managed to pull seven survivors from beneath the rubble.
Mass Evacuation and Ongoing Safety Risks
Officials quickly evacuated residents within a 3 km radius to prevent further casualties. Two gunpowder storage warehouses inside the factory posed a serious threat during rescue efforts.
To reduce the risk of additional explosions, teams sprayed water across the area to control heat and stabilize conditions. Despite these efforts, the blast caused heavy destruction in nearby neighborhoods.
Residents reported shattered windows, twisted metal doors, and damaged buildings. Some people living close to the factory have temporarily left their homes due to safety concerns.
Injuries and Medical Response
The injured victims range in age from their 20s to their 60s. Many suffered fractures and trauma caused by flying debris. Medical teams continue to treat the wounded in nearby hospitals.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have started a formal investigation into the cause of the explosion. Police have taken action against staff responsible for managing the factory as part of the inquiry.
Xi Jinping has called for full efforts to treat the injured and locate any missing individuals. He also stressed the need to hold those responsible accountable.
Environmental Monitoring and Local Impact
Local officials are closely monitoring air and water quality in the surrounding area. So far, reports suggest that environmental indicators remain within safe limits.
However, daily life has been disrupted. Roads remain blocked due to debris, forcing residents to take longer routes. Many locals are still dealing with fear and uncertainty after the explosion.
