The Old Bailey has learned that a Russian spy cell working in the UK intended to abduct a journalist and use a small boat to transport him out of the country.
According to testimony given to the court, Orlin Roussev from Great Yarmouth and Jan Marsalek, an Austrian national working as a Russian spy, exchanged thousands of communications.
In London, Roussev, 46, and Biser Dzhambazov, 43, have confessed to conspiring to spy.
London residents Tihomir Ivanchev, 39, Vanya Gaberova, 30, and Katrin Ivanova, 33, deny conspiring to spy. Additionally, Ms. Ivanova denies having several fictitious identity documents.
Jurors have been informed that over the course of almost three years, the five Bulgarian nationals participated in six operations against Russian state targets.
