Charges Relate to Alleged Abuse From the Late 1970s
Former singer Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with several historical sexual offences connected to allegations dating between 1978 and 1981.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the charges involve one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14.
Investigators say the alleged offences happened at a residential property in Kensington during the period between 1978 and 1981. The case involves one alleged victim.
Investigation Began Earlier This Year
Police confirmed that the alleged victim reported the matter on 9 January 2025. Officers then launched an investigation into the claims.
Detectives interviewed Gadd on 22 July 2025 as part of their inquiries. After reviewing the available evidence, prosecutors decided to bring formal charges.
Authorities also confirmed that specialist officers continue to support the alleged victim throughout the legal process.
Court Appearance Scheduled for August
Gadd is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 5 August, where the charges will be heard for the first time.
He is currently serving a prison sentence at HMP Channings Wood.
Crown Prosecution Service Statement
Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, said prosecutors carefully reviewed the allegations before approving the charges.
She explained that the case relates to claims made by a woman who alleges she suffered abuse between 1978 and 1981. David added that prosecutors concluded there is enough evidence for the case to proceed and that bringing it before the court is in the public interest.
Legal Process Continues
The charges mark the latest development in the ongoing legal proceedings involving the former entertainer. At this stage, the allegations remain before the courts, and the legal process will determine the outcome.
As with all criminal proceedings, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is entitled to a fair trial.
