Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique has echoed the criticism against the government’s controversial modifications to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and urged for more adjustments to the law with consultation from pertinent stakeholders.
In a post on X, the former minister made the statement, “Fake news has become a huge problem that needs to be addressed, but no government should have unlimited power to clamp down on citizens,” while urging media organizations to consult on the aforementioned bill.
The lawmaker asserted that the right to appeal tribunal rulings in the higher courts should exist but cautioned that the law is frequently applied against those who enact it.
