ISLAMABAD: On Monday, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), reiterated his support for the journalist community with regard to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act, 2025 (PECA). He also hinted that President Asif Ali Zardari might have approved the bill in response to outside pressure.

Speaking to Parliamentary Reporters Association (PRA) members at the federal capital’s Parliament House, Fazl stated that he would confer with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi regarding the contentious bill.

“The president was under so much pressure that he signed the bill into law right away,” the JUI-F chairman stated, adding that politics and journalism have always been intertwined. He added that the media community and their bodies should have been taken into consideration and that he would reiterate his opposition to Peca modifications.
