On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif restated his demand for more grant-based, flexible, and predictable financial assistance for poor nations so they may invest in sustainable development and construct resilient infrastructure.
The prime minister stated in a video address during a two-day international conference that “the path to climate adaptation and green transformation will remain elusive without such support.”
He told the global assembly that Pakistan’s climate experience represented a “cruel paradox” since, although having emissions below 1%, it was among the nations most hit by climate change, experiencing droughts that cracked the soil, floods, and glacial meltdowns.
He noted that two years ago, 33 million people were displaced, and 1,700 innocent people were killed when flooding flooded a third of Pakistan.
