Protests over the federal government’s contentious six-canal project from the Indus River continue throughout Sindh, despite Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s promises that no further canals will be built without agreement.
In numerous areas, lawyers, nationalist organizations, civil society, and political leaders are still staging sit-ins and strikes in order to demand that the project be formally canceled through a legally enforceable notification.
Bar councils from all over Sindh participated in the lawyers’ sit-in at the Babarlu Bypass on the National Highway in Khairpur, which entered its eighth day on Friday.
Leaders of the Khairpur Bar reaffirmed their need for an official announcement canceling the project, threatening that protests will continue until that time.
