ISLAMABAD According to research by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO), a startling 32,617 incidences of gender-based violence (GBV) were reported countrywide in 2024, highlighting the widespread problem in Pakistan.
Of these, 5,339 rapes, 24,439 kidnappings, 2,238 domestic violence cases, and 547 honor killings were reported, according to The News.
The national conviction rates for these horrible crimes are startlingly low: barely 0.5% for honor killings and rape, 0.1% for kidnapping, and 1.3% for domestic abuse.
Additionally, a thorough province-by-province study encompassing Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and the Islamabad Capital Territory is provided in the SSDO paper, “Mapping Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Pakistan 2024.”
