In yet another step to improve financial benefits for public office holders, the Punjab Assembly enacted the Public Representatives Laws Amendment Bill 2025, which gives the provincial ministers, speaker, and deputy speaker complete leave allowance equal to monthly salary.
The Punjab Ministers’ Salaries, Allowances and Benefits Act of 1975, which only permitted 74% of the salary to be taken on official leave, is being amended by this amendment.
What is different now?
Ministers who previously got Rs74,000 in leave benefits against a monthly salary of Rs100,000 would now get their full monthly salary while on leave, according to official sources.
Now, ministers would receive Rs. 960,000 while on leave, with no deductions.
