In a major diplomatic win, Pakistan’s mission to the UN announced Wednesday that it has been appointed vice-chair of the UNSC’s Counter-Terrorism Committee, which will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of resolution 1373 (2001) pertaining to international anti-terror efforts.
Islamabad has made major contributions to global peace and security, including serving as one of the top nations supplying troops to UN peacekeeping operations worldwide, and actively advancing the goals and ideals of the UN Charter. In June 2024, it was elected to the UN Security Council, taking Japan’s place in Asia.
