Defense Minister Khawaja Asif claimed on Thursday that New Delhi’s unilateral acts, including as the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), have eroded the “sanctity” of the 1972 Simla Agreement between India and Pakistan.
Asif told Geo News that “the [Simla] agreement was bilateral […] as no third party or the World Bank was involved,” adding that in the event that the bilateral treaty was not signed, the Line of Control (LoC) would become a ceasefire line.
Following the third conflict between the two nations in 1971, the Simla Agreement was formed, outlining guidelines for bilateral relations that include observance of the ceasefire line in Kashmir.
