Minutes after taking off from the western city of Ahmedabad on Thursday, an Air India plane carrying 242 people headed for London crashed, killing more than 200 people, according to authorities. It was the deadliest aviation accident in ten years.
According to officials, at least one individual is known to have survived. The man informed Indian media that he heard a huge explosion soon after takeoff.
Outside the airport during lunch, the plane crashed into a medical college dorm in a residential area. It was en route to Gatwick Airport, which is located south of the capital city of Britain.
