The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of the devastating impact of loneliness, claiming that it causes over 800,000 deaths annually worldwide.
The UN health agency called social isolation and loneliness a “public health challenge of our time” in a recent study, and it urged communities and governments to prioritize social interaction.
The report claims that loneliness causes about 871,000 deaths a year, or more than 100 deaths every hour on average. According to the WHO, loneliness is the upsetting discrepancy between people’s desired and real social ties.
“At a time when people are more digitally connected than ever before, a growing number of individuals are feeling isolated and alone,”
