The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench’s June 27 ruling prompted the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to release a notice on Wednesday about the reserved seats.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was denied seats earmarked for women and minorities in the national and provincial assembly after the Constitutional Bench of the top court accepted review petitions. This decision gave the ruling coalition the majority of the reserved seats.
Following the notification, the top electoral board restored five of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s reserved seats for women in the National Assembly.
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) both received two seats.
