In a formal announcement released on Wednesday by the Cabinet Division, the federal government declared public holidays in honor of Ashura.
The announcement states that July 5 and 6, which coincide to the ninth and tenth days of Muharram, will be national holidays.
The Cabinet Division’s December 23, 2024, circular, which lists the year’s public holiday calendar, served as the basis for the decision.
