Although scientists believe many more may go undetected, astronomers confirmed the finding of the third interstellar object ever seen speeding through our solar system.
The celestial visitor, 3I/Atlas, is categorized as a comet, or cosmic snowball, and is probably the largest one ever discovered.
Peter Veres, an astronomer with the Minor Planet Center of the International Astronomical Union, which handled the formal confirmation, said, “It looks kind of fuzzy.”
“I believe one or two telescopes reported a very short tail, and it appears that there is some gas surrounding it.”
