Three Indian officials with knowledge of the situation said that New Delhi has halted its plans to purchase new US weaponry and planes. This is the first tangible indication of dissatisfaction after President Donald Trump’s tariffs on India’s exports caused ties to drop to their lowest point in decades.
According to two of the persons, India has canceled its planned trip to Washington in the upcoming weeks for Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to make an announcement regarding some of the purchases.
As retaliation for Delhi’s purchases of Russian oil, which he claimed indicated the nation was supporting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Trump levied an additional 25% duty on Indian imports on August 6.
