ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the National Assembly passed the Anti-Terrorism Act (Amendment) Bill by a majority vote, bringing the law back to life and allowing law enforcement to hold a suspect for up to 90 days.
The sunset clause, which permits a legislation’s limited duration, causes this statute, which already exists, to expire.
Talal Chaudhry, the Minister of State for Interior, introduced the Anti-terrorism (Amendment) Bill, 2024, today in order to further alter the Anti-terrorism Act of 1997.
Aliya Kamran, a lawmaker from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), proposed a separate amendment in an attempt to forward the ATA amendment bill to the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII).
