Mr. Albanese captioned a selfie he posted on social media with the news, “She said yes.”
We can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together and are happy and eager to share this news. The two later released a statement together, saying, “We are so lucky to have found each other.”
Among those who have praised the pair are TV chef Nigella Lawson, New Zealand leader Christopher Luxon, and colleagues from across the parliament.
“Love is an amazing emotion. I’m overjoyed for you two.” Penny Wong, the foreign minister, wrote.
After 19 years of marriage, Mr. Albanese and former deputy premier of New South Wales Carmel Tebbutt separated in 2019 and had a son, Nathan Albanese, who is 23 years old.
The head of the Labor Party has previously explained how, a year later, he and Ms. Haydon, who has experience in the financial services sector, got together because they both loved their National Rugby League club.
