ISLAMABAD According to the most recent figures from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in the first two months of 2024, 6.13 million phones were produced or built domestically in Pakistan, while just 0.3 million handsets were imported.
Among these phones are 2.78 million GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) and 3.35 million smartphones.
Leading the way in the production and assembly of mobile devices are Chinese businesses, which assist the nation in lowering import costs and relieving pressure on its foreign exchange reserves.
Eight of the top 10 mobile phone manufacturers and/or assemblers are based in China, according to data. China’s Infinix produced 0.85 million phones in the first two months of 2024, followed by VGO Tel with 0.82 million and iTel in third place with 0.77 million.
