Following some startling disclosures by the nation’s tax head, a Senate subcommittee on Wednesday fully supported a plan to tax the revenues of the nation’s upscale private clubs.
In a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, which is chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial stated, “These clubs are merely hubs of luxury for a privileged few.”
Elite leisure facilities like the Islamabad Club, according to the head of the FBR, serve only a few thousand individuals while having billions of rupees in their bank accounts.
