In an effort to stop another round of the violent protests that broke out in the valley earlier this week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif searched for a long-term solution to the problems that the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) are facing on Thursday.
Two days after the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) canceled its rallies against inflation, high taxes, and electricity bills, the premier made his remarks on Thursday during a day-long visit to the AJK.
At least four people, including a police officer, had died and seven more had been injured over the four days of protests in AJK.
One day after the federal government offered a Rs23 billion package of subsidies for AJK, the protests were called off.
Speaking at the AJK special cabinet meeting, PM Shehbaz gave his word that his administration will work with the local leadership to implement mutual understanding and look for a long-term solution to the problems the Kashmiri people face.
For the benefit of the people of AJK, he directed the creation of a committee to address matters such as water charges, Neelum Jhelum, and other matters.
