Empower Oversight, the legal group representing IRS special agents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, claims that in a March 11 federal court filing, Weiss’ team intentionally deceived the public by implying that an unnamed federal entity was investigating the two whistleblowers for misbehavior. The vague mention of the “possible investigation(s)” alludes to a probe that was brought forward by informants who said the IRS and Justice Department were punishing them for revealing information.
