It appears that Hunter Greene, a player with the Cincinnati Reds, suffered from sunburn.
With Bryan Reynolds at first base, the right-hander was facing the Pittsburgh Pirates in the top of the first inning.
Greene hit an inside-corner fastball at 95 mph that was fouled off, and nearly as soon as Reynolds made contact, Greene spun around and puked.
Trainers hurried over to the mound right away to see how Greene was doing physically.
Maybe, though, it was a portent of things to come.
The program mentioned that Greene had also become ill during his previous start and that he had drunk too much water to stay hydrated.
Heat-related mishaps have caused pitchers to collapse on the mound before. Dylan Bundy experienced it in 2021 (almost exactly three years ago) while playing a game in the Bronx in temperatures close to 100 degrees. He eventually had heat fatigue and left the start in the second inning.
