A senator from Nigeria told the news that she was “shocked” by the action taken against her and that she first found out about the government’s lawsuit “on the news.”
After Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that one of the nation’s leading politicians was planning her murder, the government filed defamation charges against her.
Akpoti-Uduaghan said in April that former state governor Yahaya Bell and Senate President Godswill Akpabio intended to “eliminate” her. Both have refuted this charge.
She had before accused Akpabio of pestering her sexually, a claim he has denied.
