An activist from Uganda who was detained for days in Tanzania has been discovered at the Tanzanian border with “indications of torture,” according to her rights organization.
Together with fellow Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi, who was discovered on Thursday near the border of his native country, Agather Atuhaire had been detained incommunicado in Tanzania.
“After being tormented, we were instructed to take a bath and strip naked. We were instructed to crawl and go wash off the blood because we were unable to walk,” Mwangi wrote in a post on X.
The two had traveled to Tanzania to express support for Tundu Lissu, the leader of the opposition, who was charged with treason and appeared in court on Monday.
