KARACHI: Naila Kiani, the best and most accomplished female mountaineer from Pakistan, reached her 12th summit above 8,000 meters when she climbed Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world.
Kiani has made progress toward her goal of being one of the select few women who have climbed all 14 of the highest mountains in the world with her most recent accomplishment.
The highest peak in India, Kanchenjunga, is 8,586 meters (28,169 ft) high and crosses the border between India and Nepal. Climbing the peak from the Indian side is prohibited, though.
Naila Kiani started her last climb from Camp IV on Thursday night and made it to the summit at about 6am PKT, raising Pakistan’s flag atop the third-highest peak in the world, the second-highest in Nepal, and the highest peak in India.
