The boy, who is believed to be only 50 days old, was traveling with a group of migrants who were left behind by human traffickers and ended up stuck in a mountainous terrain.
Officials stated that when the group’s supplies ran short, seawater was utilized to create the baby’s milk.
While others were evacuated from the area by helicopter, the baby was successfully rescued by sea by the authorities.
According to the local media, the infant is well and safe. The number of members in the group is unclear.
Details of the rescue were made public over the weekend by Tilos Mayor Maria Kamma in a post.
It described how traffickers in people are allegedly causing a “scene of despair” on the island by alleging that some refugees have been “badly beaten”.
The previous several months have seen a spectacle of sorrow for the people of my island: a pregnant woman imprisoned on the mountain, newborns and toddlers thrown to the rocky sections of the island, women hurt, and men severely assaulted by the Turkish traffickers.
