Regarding the false reports that automated teller machines (ATMs) would soon close in Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) provided clarification on Saturday.
In its clarification, the telecommunications body said that there was no problem with long-distance international (LDI) network availability or closure that might have an impact on the banking or IT sectors, including ATM networks.
In a press release, the PTA stated: “In response to the fake news circulating in the media about potential closure of ATMs, it is clarified that currently there is no such issue of non availability/closure of LDI networks that may potentially impact IT or financial sector including ATM networks.”
The authority further stated that the LDI licensees whose licenses have expired are not ceasing to operate.
