Following a tip from police that the 30-year-old Namibian lady was attempting to smuggle drugs into the country on a flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil, the anonymous woman was stopped and taken into custody at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport.
According to authorities, he is the eleventh suspected drug smuggler to be apprehended at the same airport in the previous two months. They also mentioned that a Nigerian national was detained last week on suspicion of the same offenses.
The woman was brought to a nearby hospital following her arrest, when an X-ray showed that she had apparently eaten some things in her stomach.
She “released” 68 “bullets” of suspected cocaine under police supervision, weighing a combined 850g, according to South African authorities.
“Our brave men and women in blue are working diligently to apprehend seasoned criminals. Transnational organized crime and criminals do not have a haven in South Africa. According to General Fannie Masemola, national commissioner of the South African police service, “We are squeezing the space for criminals and leaving nothing to chance.”
