On paper, Donald Trump’s remarks had much to anger the Kremlin.
He compared Russia to a “paper tiger” that had been “fighting aimlessly” in Ukraine, to start.
That won’t sit well with Moscow.
It was considered a huge insult here when President Barack Obama referred to Russia as a “regional power” rather than a global one.
Moscow will also have taken notice of President Trump’s assertion that Ukraine might reclaim all of the area that Russia had taken.
Additionally, Trump’s response to a reporter’s query will have raised Russian eyebrows even further.
“Do you think that Nato countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their air space?” said the reporter.
“Yes, I do,” Trump said.
