After Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Sheikh died on Tuesday at the age of 82, King Salman bin Abdulaziz named Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah Al Humaid the new Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Senior Council of Scholars.
Many people in the Muslim world consider Dr. Saleh bin Humaid to be among the most esteemed Islamic thinkers. He is renowned for giving the yearly Hajj sermon at Masjid Namira in Arafat and has been Imam and Khateeb of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah for over 40 years.
He has been an active member of Saudi Arabia’s Majlis al-Shura (Consultative Council) since 1993 in addition to his religious responsibilities.
