The 29-year-old, who was formerly ranked number 13 in the world, has only participated in one ATP Tour singles match in the past two years due to ailments to his knee, foot, and wrist. He has also made several references to retiring.
However, prior to the Australian Open in January, he stated on News Corp’s Code Sports podcast that he will return for the World Tennis League tournament in Abu Dhabi in December.
“I am coming back because something is keeping me around the game,” he stated.
“I’ve defeated almost everyone who has faced me, advanced to the Grand Slam final, won a Grand Slam doubles title.
However, I believe that a Grand Slam is the only thing I am now aiming for. That, in my opinion, is the only thing that will ultimately silence people.
