Emmerson Mnangagwa, the president of Zimbabwe, has signed a controversial measure into law requiring all drivers to obtain a radio license prior to purchasing auto insurance.
Since they would now have to pay $92 (£68) a year to listen to the radio in their cars, several drivers have expressed outrage.
Although the measure’s implementation is part of a goal to increase the public broadcaster’s revenue streams, some argue that the license cost is excessive, particularly in light of the challenging economic climate.
The new law was deemed “too draconian, anti-citizens, and outrightly heartless” by Nelson Chamisa, a prominent opposition member.
