More than merely a diplomatic coup, Pakistan’s hosting of the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting gave the government a chance to demonstrate to the rest of the world that the issues it had been dealing with over the past few years had been contained.
Pakistan has faced several obstacles in the past several years, such as political unrest, economic hardships, and security worries. These unfavorable impressions have damaged Pakistan’s reputation internationally and undermined investor confidence. Therefore, it helped dispel the ideas that such a difficult diplomatic event could be organized so successfully in the midst of current domestic challenges.
Because of persistent threats and political instability, the meeting was held under strict security. The visiting delegates may not have found the city’s empty streets during the security lockdown especially comforting.
