A pro-Palestine demonstration led by former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed was stopped by Islamabad police from getting to the US embassy at Abpara Chowk.
Police and demonstrators started fighting. Senator Mushtaq and about 20 other people were taken into custody by the police.
Under the direction of former Senator Mushtaq, the Muslim Tulba Mahaz organized the demonstration. Both sides of Abpara Market Road have a substantial police presence.
Police used what witnesses said was disproportionate force to disperse the throng when protesters who had joined the demonstration after Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid Shuhada tried to march in the direction of the US embassy.
It is also stated that the cops brutally treated Senator Mushtaq. Police also shut down Aabpara Market.
