Amit Shah, the Indian Home Minister, has been charged by Canada for masterminding a number of schemes to target Sikh separatists inside its boundaries.
Shah was linked to a campaign of violence and intimidation against Sikh separatists, according to Canadian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison, who confirmed this accusation to a U.S. newspaper during a legislative session.
The Indian government has denied any involvement in such activities and rejected these allegations as baseless.
The accusations coincide with a tense relationship between Canada and India, especially after Indian diplomats were expelled for their involvement in the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.
India has a fierce insurgency over Sikh separatists and has always classified them as terrorists.
