At an airfield in Arizona Tuesday afternoon, a tiny plane crashed through a fence and struck a car while aborting takeoff, killing five people, including a toddler, according to authorities.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the Honda HA-420 aircraft crashed at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, a city located roughly 25 miles east of Phoenix, at 4:40 p.m.
In an emailed statement Wednesday morning, the NTSB stated, “Preliminary information indicates that the plane impacted the airport perimeter fence and a passenger vehicle during an aborted takeoff.”
Mesa Fire and Medical Department spokesperson Marrisa Ramirez-Ramos said the crash claimed the lives of five persons.
