The tournament continues despite security concerns
The organizers of the Mexican Open confirmed that the tournament would go on as scheduled, despite the recent violence in Mexico after the death of Mexico’s most-wanted drug lord.
Nemesio Cervantes (also known as El Mencho) died Sunday in custody, just a few hours after being taken by Mexican Special Forces. The arrest of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes and his death in custody sparked violent clashes with the Mexican army and supporters.
Acapulco is located in Guerrero and will host the Mexican Open on Monday. US officials have warned residents of five Mexican states including Guerrero to take shelter from the violence.

In the first round of this tournament, Britain’s Cameron Norrie will face Spaniard Rafael Jodar. Katie Boulter, Heather Watson and other Brits will be competing in Merida, Yucatan.
Watson will face Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, a Spaniard from Spain.
Cartel Retaliation Across Mexico
Members of Mexico’s powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel, or CJNG, who are responsible for El Mencho’s murder, have set fire to businesses and created burning blocks.
The Mexican Open confirmed that the event was proceeding as planned and they were in contact with all federal, state and municipal officials, according to established security protocols.
