In a show of patriotism, two up-and-coming squash players from Pakistan, Mahnoor Ali and Harmas Raja, won historic titles at the US Junior Open squash championships on Tuesday night at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.
Their victories represent an important turning point for Pakistan on the international squash scene.
At the US Junior Open, Mahnoor Ali became the first female Pakistani player to win the Girls’ Under-13 title. In the final, Mahnoor, who was seeded third, put on an incredible display, defeating top-seeded Linda Elsayed of Egypt 3-1 with scores of 11-8, 12-10, 5-11, and 11-6.
Mahnoor defeated Hong Kong’s Xyan Yin 3-1 in the semi-finals to demonstrate her supremacy on her way to her historic triumph.
