On Monday, a plane carrying 59 white South Africans who were given refugee status by the Trump administration touched here in the US.
They are not anticipated to be the final Afrikaners to arrive in the United States, and they were the first to be granted refugee status by the Trump administration. Deputy Secretary Troy Edgar of the Department of Homeland Security and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau welcomed the South Africans, including children, as they arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia.
In response to allegations of prejudice, the Trump administration has taken steps to both acknowledge and accelerate the processing of Afrikaner refugees. It has also halted the resettlement of all other refugees, including those escaping famine and conflict.
