The rights to broadcast live coverage of the 2027 and 2031 Women’s World Cups in the US have been acquired by Netflix.
Fifa, the football governing body, confirmed the deal on Friday. This is the first time Netflix has fully purchased the live rights to a sporting event.
Fifa president Gianni Infantino stated, “Netflix has demonstrated a very strong level of commitment to growing women’s football as a marquee brand and Fifa’s new long-term partner.”
Brazil will host the World Cup in 2027. Although the US, England, and a joint offer from the other British federations have all been proposed as possible bidders, the host of the 2031 tournament has not yet been decided.
