Three days prior to the meetings, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had already had a phone conversation with his seasoned Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. Following the meeting on Tuesday, he declared his belief that Russia was prepared for a “serious process” to end the war and that diplomatic contacts between the two nations will be restored.
Rubio voted against a $6 billion US deal and has long called for an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
