A White House official told Reuters on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump will meet with the CEOs of major pharmaceutical companies on Thursday. The meeting comes as the sector seeks government support for changes to insurance and prescription prices.
An industry source familiar with the situation said the meeting is anticipated to discuss issues such as Medicare drug pricing negotiations, pharmacy benefit managers, and pharmaceutical product tariffs.
Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that Stephen Ubl, the head of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the primary lobby group for pharmaceutical companies, will attend the meeting, although the White House did not specify who would be present.
Trump’s wild card of a potential 25% tariff on pharmaceutical imports has drugmakers scrambling.
