MADRID: On Thursday, a Spanish court found former football manager Luis Rubiales guilty of sexual assault for forcing a kiss on star striker Jenni Hermoso. Rubiales was also fined 10,800 euros ($11,300).
However, he and the other three defendants were exonerated by the court of the accusation of coercion.
Rubiales had been charged by prosecutors with two-and-a-half years in prison, one year for sexual assault and eighteen months for coercion, for allegedly pressuring the player to minimize the incident.
Rubiales was charged with coercion for allegedly attempting to persuade Hermoso to minimize the event after it occurred and sexual assault for kissing her after Spain won the women’s World Cup in Australia in 2023.
